I think I did more this week than I did all last summer? This summer is going to be fucking awesome.. Lets see, got my MCAT scores back, drank every single day this week, beach, lots of eating out, saw jess off to prom, went out dancing, drank some more, partied with my lil sister, beer pong and flip cup included (and had some drunken moments), and went to New Jersey PRIDE (which was fricken amazing, even the rain and strip volleyball haha). I have horrible sunburn and sore legs, but cheers yo. Life is pretty awesome, can’t even lie. Now I go sleep for a week.
Using knives, tweezers and surgical tools, Brian Dettmer carves one page at a time. Nothing inside the out-of-date encyclopedias, medical journals, illustration books, or dictionaries is relocated or implanted, only removed. Dettmer manipulates the pages and spines to form the shape of his sculptures. He also folds, bends, rolls, and stacks multiple books to create completely original sculptural forms.
“I think the way they were brought into this world was very unique and weirdly scientific, and the technology involved in it, I think, is remarkable. But it came because we really, really wanted kids. Like we really had thought it through financially, emotionally, relationship-wise. Like we didn’t just accidentally get pregnant and decide that now we need to make this work. These kids came into our world with nothing but love.”
